This tuesday saw the release of a record we are very excited about. Douglas Armour's debut full length The Light Of A Golden Day, The Arms Of The Night.
In anticipation of your love of Douglas Armour's musical stylings we have created a page which lets you stream the entire record. Let the obsessing begin people.
The warmer weather has arrived and, as we gear up for our annual spring cleaning, we thought we may look to our faithful mailorder base to make our job that much easier. To clear some space in our somewhat cramped office, we are putting a chunk of the TSR back catalog on sale for a limited time. Here is your chance to take a chance on records you may have missed or, for the crazy completist, round out your TSR collection at a reduced price. Act quickly as some supplies are limited and the sale will only be up for a few weeks.
In honor of Blood On The Wall's North American expeditionary venture, we've given some free new stuff to a bunch of our favorite internet destinations. Pitchfork.tv is premiering the new video for Hibernation today; Charlie Downey who plays in Lawrence, KS based Bandit Teeth (with Zach Campbell and Brad Shanks of BOTW) created the video out of hours of footage from the TSR SXSW cavalcade in between cramming for his finals the last few weeks. We've also got some live recordings from the TSR SXSW Showcase: Stereogum has their hands on a live version of Reunite On Ice from BOTW's second record Awesomer while Pitchfork has custody of a double threat live track of Hibernation & The Ditch.
Just jammed some Growing Rough Mixes from their forthcoming full length......really wish we could post them but you are going to have to go buy Lateral if you want a preview.
Hey Folks. Lots of new web updates (with more on the way). We pulled down a lot of the old MP3s that were on the site but they will be making a comeback over the next few weeks.
Of course, in their place we have provided all kinds of new jams.
Growing's Lateral comes out tomorrow and to celebrate the occasion, Growing (ie Kevin Doria & Joe Denardo) will be DJing Lit this evening (Monday) for the Hugs Party with this guy and this guy. I can almost guarantee that no one will jam the new Growing record tonight
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LP EDITION IS A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE COMPACT DISC BUT COMES WITH A FREE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD!
Ok. You may have realized that Telepathe has been tearing up NYC (and occasionally LA) in
all kinds of incarnations for the past year and a half. It is only now that we are ready to unleash on you the first commercially available recordings since the trio reinvented itself with spectacular results. Headed
towards a more electronic oriented landscape the three created a
new sound for Telepathe, versed in beat politics, punk,
noise and, dare we say it, pop.
All of this is self evident in the music contained on the band's freshly pressed Sinister
Militia 12-inch, which will be in stores June 19th. Featured are two new tracks, Sinister
Militia and Islands, along with a remix of each, the former by Tyler
Pope, Justin van der Volgen and Mario Andreoni of !!! with the latter being served up Drew Daniel of
Matmos. This record shows the band further developing their sound
and, with the two remixes, brings them even closer to the dancefloor.
Telepathe are very close to completion of their forthcoming TBA full-length. The roughs we have heard so far have been outstanding showing the 12-inch material, though strong, is only a hint at the level the band has taken things to. Working with a range of production-oriented collaborators in the past year (Alexxxchange of Spank Rock, The Brothers, Nicholas Vernhees/Rare Book Room) the band has taken their musical ideas into a wholly new territory. You can hear some rough examples of this on the new direction on both Telepathe's Myspace and the Myspace of Rare Book Room Records (who will soon be releasing a killer double CD compilation featuring Telepathe, TK Webb, Blood On The Wall and many other talented people).
In advance of the 12-inch release Telepathe has been asked to go out on tour with !!!. After a few shows with !!! the band will be doing some gigs by themselves:
April 28th at The Smell in Los Angeles, CA April 29th at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA * April 30th at The Library in Sacramento, CA * May 1st at Macdonald Theater in Eugene, OR * May 2nd at Someday Lounge in Portland, OR * May 3rd at Neumo's in Seattle, WA * May 4th at La Voyeur in Olympia, WA May 5th at a Basement in Portland, OR
* = with !!!

Just to let you know: Tonight's Psychic Ills NYer's Eve Performance at Monkey Town is sold out....we'll actually have to carry amps in to get in. That was to be expected.
We have this feeling that 2007 is going to be a major year for Psychic Ills. The press has been all over Early Violence and the band in general as of late. The band has been reborn into a trio that is musically light years ahead of Dins or the Early Violence material. All reports on their recent Indian Jewelry tour and their European tour have been gushing. The NY Times ran a piece on them which is always a fine feather in your cap. The new material is taking shape and and there is a lot of it. Probably beyond most of those external factors though, the most tell tale sign would be that when a band member had to quit less than a week before their European tour, the three remaining members just picked up the pieces and plowed through 7 weeks of touring in a 12 week period with astounding results. Unstoppable.
Also Spin.Com just made them 'Band Of The Day' today. They may have hit the nail on the head with the comment: "The focus here is on the big picture -- on piercing the gloomy
firmament and spiraling through Technicolor wormholes until ears pop,
eyes bulge, and water and lips peel away from teeth." Check it out by clicking here.
Also, regarding Early Violence, an uncredited bonus remix of Diamond City has been getting billed as "redux" version due to an error at the mastering house (you may see it at itunes or some other online serives). In reality it is supposed to be unlisted bonus track which had the working title "chopped and screwed" and referenced Robert Earl Davis aka this guy.
They will be playing New Years Eve at Monkey Town in Brooklyn which very well may turn out to be the bext show of 2006 or 2007 depending on what time they play.
So we're experimenting with a new way to work out our news page. The idea is to have multiple people able to add news to our section over here (ie. people at the label, bands, ect). This should also let us post pictures, mp3s, videos and let us stream rss feeds. We want our future now!
But please bare with us as we get this thing going.
