This Thursday (11/1) is the record release party for Mike Bones' excellent album The Sky Behind The Sea at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn. Mike kills it live and for this show will be backed up by the stellar talents of Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Zwan, Superwolf), Jeff Jensen and Parker Kindred (Anthony & The Johnsons). There are a few equally excellent opening acts for your listening pleasure so show up early: Total Life (Kevin Doria from Growing), Soiled Mattress & The Springs and King Darves. Be sure to come out! It will be a banger.
We couldn't be much more in love with Bones' music; the dude plays with a sincerity and natural talent that is so rarely seen. In the words of Vice Magazine: "Mike Bones is the favorite guitarist of every musician you like in New York. He's like the New York music geek world's secret weapon." Mike's talents, however, do not only lie with his guitar playing. His lyrics are some of the best we have heard for a long long time. As Panpot said in their review of The Sky Behind The Sea: "The lyrics are cynical, murky, and sometimes obscure. But like good street-poetry, they have a seductive mysterious quality. A feeling of brooding isolation, the desolation of a world so odious and complicated that even the enemies of your enemies hate you."
The Sky Behind The Sea is out in a week (11/6), but luckily for you is available early for purchase in our mail-order store here.
