Ghost Exits live at Glasslands || September 28th

This Friday Ghost Exits will continue their reunion by playing a live set at Brooklyn's Glasslands for Animal Train Happening #4. They have only played one show since getting back together a couple of months ago and it was great so be sure to check out the continuing re-emergence of this band. As an added bonus Gang Gang Dance's Brian DeGraw will be playing records. In addition to this cult occult filmmaker/performance artist Micki Pellerano will be screening a film, go go dancers The Marmaladies will be dancing and Mighty Robot AV Club will be providing their always excellent projections. Add to this Ivan Sunshine of VietNam and Ghost Exits' disco lights and DJs Eric Z and Jonathan Toubin of New York Night Train and you have what promises to be a truly stellar night of entertainment.

Artanker Convoy live at Studio B || September 20th

Tomorrow (September 20th) Artanker Convoy will be gracing the stage of Brooklyn's Studio B. Artanker are a killer live band with a strong improvisational bent and are not to be missed. Tiny Mix Tapes describes them as "a distillation of crossover jazz/funk kitsch seen through the post rock prism with as much in common with experimental psychedelic rock as with the crossover jazz sub-genre." Also on the bill are MGMT.

Free Live Jäh Division Podcast! Wooo!

You may have noticed that our website just got a bit of a face lift; a semi-happy by-product of the theft of a laptop containing all the source files back in July. We have now moved on to our iTunes podcasts, posting a live set of Jäh Division from our 2007 Summer Festival. A little on the boomy side, the recording stems from a a video camera but it does offer people outside the opportunity to finally hear the latest sounds of the band. This particular set features the band configuration of Brad Truax, Barry London, Chris Millstein, Kid Millions, Mike Bones and Sleepy Doug Shaw.

Psychic Ills European Tour || September 20th-October 6th

This week Psychic Ills will be heading out on a tour of Europe. They have been pretty incredible live of late and so are well worth making the effort to see. The dates are as follows:

I.U.D. shows in New York || September 13th and September 19th

To celebrate the release of their debut 7-inch, which also happens to be the fifth release in our monthly 7-inch series The Social Club, I.U.D. have a couple of New York shows lined up in Brooklyn. Firstly, they will be playing with A.R.E. Weapons at Studio B on September 13th. Secondly they will be playing what is their official record release party alongside label-mates Growing at Glasslands on September 19th. Both will be amazing shows and both should be compulsory for anyone looking to hear great music. In case you don't know, I.U.D. is the duo of Lizzi Bougatsos (of Gang Gang Dance) and Sadie Laska. They rule.

Jah Division live at Brooklyn's Glasslands || September 7th

Tomorrow night (September 7th) Jah Division will be playing a show at the opening party for Brooklyn's Glasslands (289 Kent Avenue btwn. South 1st and South 2nd in Williamsburg). Jah Division live is a pretty rare and wonderful thing that is truly not to be missed. Awesome Color will also be playing a set and our very own DJ Black Ops (as in The Social Registry's Joe Gaer) will be playing records. Pretty much unmissable really.

Christy & Emily announce East Coast Dates || Open for Oakley Hall

Hot on the heels of the release of their debut album Gueen's Head, and a European tour with The Nightingales, Christy & Emily have scheduled a bunch of East Coast dates with Mia Doi Todd and Oakley Hall. Gueen's Head has been getting garnering praise from the press, one example being this from Plan B: "These poised, elegant songs feed classic  NYC songwriting through a minimalist filter, like Arthur Russell jamming with Galaxie 500...they've given me a perfect half hour every day. A chunk of sunshine in the gloom." All the dates are as follows - go check them out, it will be worth it:

Brian DeGraw in Becks Fusions at London's ICA with Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip || September 6

This Thursday (September 6th) Brian DeGraw of Gang Gang Dance will be performing at London's Institute of Contemporary Art alongside Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip. This is part of the ICA's Becks Fusions series of events (which also features the likes of Matthew Herbert and Chemical Brothers). We can not tell you exactly what to expect except that Brian and Alexis will be performing together along with an original film created by Brian specifically for the event. It is sure to be amazing and is very much a one time kind of thing so those of you based in the UK need to get yourselves down there.
